Waterfront Market, Dubai’s largest food market, is celebrating the UAE’s 54th National Day with a remarkable artwork crafted using 60kgs of coffee beans sourced from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Colombia and Sri Lanka. The piece forms a detailed portrait honouring the UAE’s leaders, with each bean symbolising unity, heritage and the shared purpose that continues to shape the Nation’s story.
The portrait was created by UAE-based Filipina visual artist Catherine Nunez, one of only five sand animation performers in the Middle East. Known for her immersive and expressive style, Nunez brings the tribute to life with intricate detail using over 400,000 coffee beans.
The installation will be on display in the Market’s central atrium until 3 December, along with a majlis offering visitors complimentary Arabic coffee and dates. Together, they invite visitors to pause and take in the spirit of the occasion throughout the National Day week. From 29 November to 2 December, additional cultural programming includes daily Ayala dance performances from 5 PM to 9 PM, bringing rhythm, tradition and a proud expression of Emirati heritage to the Market.
Families visiting during the National Day break can also take part in the Little Foodie Explorers Passport activation, where children collect stamps across the Market, meet traders and discover new ingredients. Completed passports can be submitted for a certificate and small surprises, making it an enjoyable and educational activity for the long weekend.
